The DVLA has issued a reminder to drivers who move home. If they do not take action to update their vehicle details, there could be serious consequences.
The first thing to do after the move is to update the driving licence and vehicle log book (V5C) with the new address. This is simple to do online at https://www.gov.uk/tell-dvla-changed-address.
You can still drive whilst waiting for the updated driving licence and vehicle documents to arrive.
If you pay vehicle tax by direct debit, your details will need to be updated. For those with a personalised number plate or a registered trailer, the applicable documents will also require the new address.
If the move is temporary, for instance if you move away to attend university, your address details do not have to be updated, provided you still have a permanent address where you can be contacted.
The car insurance company also needs informing about the move. The cost of insurance may be adjusted depending on which area you are moving to.
There is a lot to do when moving home, but it is important not to forget about the household cars. Without valid documents with details of your new address, you could be breaking the law.
Another important moving job that shouldn’t be put off is to book a removals service as soon as you have a moving date. Contact Merseyside Movers & Storers if you’re after an efficient and reliable service for house removals in Liverpool and beyond.
