Planning permission has been granted for a 32,000-square-foot storage facility beneath the Bitmore Mayfair Hotel in London’s Grosvenor Square.
Customers using the facility will pay around £90 per square foot per year for storage space, which is about three times the cost of the average storage space in the UK.
The new facility is designed to cater to wealthy customers who don’t mind paying extra for secure storage of luxury items like fine art, fine wine, and jewellery.
The space was previously a parking garage, although this ceased operations in 2020. 1784 Holdings, the operator of storage facilities, will spend around £15 million converting the space into 533 storage units.
Customers will be welcomed in the reception area by a concierge service similar to that of a hotel, provided by Self Storage Concierge. Chief executive of Self Storage Concierge, Emil Sohrab, says the storage facility will be quite different from the usual:
“We are determined to create a hospitality-standard experience within a sector that has traditionally been functional rather than customer-focused.”
This luxury storage facility is due to open in summer 2026.
