Octopus and Rightmove endeavour to find homes with no energy bills

Octopus energy provider and property platform Rightmove have teamed up to launch a scheme that makes it easy for homeowners to find a zero-bills home.

Rightmove has stated that more people are interested in purchasing homes equipped with heat pumps and solar panels that dramatically cut energy bills. Listings for homes with heat pumps have risen by 46%, and those with solar panels by 37% in a year,

Houses for sale must have an energy performance certificate (EPC), which grades homes on a scale from A, the most energy-efficient, to G, the least energy-efficient. The Octopus and Rightmove scheme goes beyond simply helping buyers find homes that consume less energy to heat. A Zero Bills label on a Rightmove listing indicates homes that are members of the Octopus Zero Bills Home scheme that have good insulation, heat pumps, solar panels, and batteries. These homes generate and store all the electricity they consume.

A property registered on the Octopus Zero Bills system guarantees no energy bills for between five and ten years. Rightmove estimates that moving from a house with a D EPC rating to a Zero Bills home can save around £2,350 annually in energy costs.

Johan Svanstrom, the head of Rightmove, said that the partnership with Octopus will help homebuyers navigate to a greener future.
