Rightmove has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) property search system to help people find their next home. This feature is in beta and is powered by Google’s Gemini AI.
Property seekers can enter their own words into a chat window, with the AI bot able to understand complex requests. For example, users can ask to see homes in Southport with sea views, or properties within a thirty-minute commute of Liverpool city centre with solar panels.
The main limitation of the system is that it only finds homes listed on Rightmove, rather than matching with properties on other websites. The beta version of the system is not available to all Rightmove users.
Rightmove states that the AI system reflects a growing demand for more conversational, description-based searches that are not limited to a set number of search terms. The Rightmove website handles a billion queries each month, and this search data is used to train the Gemini AI system. Tarah Lourens, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Rightmove, said that the new AI system is a way to add real value for people moving home.
Rightmove plans to further develop the system based on user feedback. AI search capabilities are likely to be integrated into other property listing websites. AI is increasingly being used in the home-buying and moving process.
