New research by car maker Isuzu has confirmed what most believe — moving home comes with lots of stress and strain.
The research was based on a survey of 2,000 UK adults. It found that, on average, British people move five times during their lives. They will carry over 36 loads of possessions in the family car to their new homes, as well as using removal services. Over 77% of survey respondents said they made more trips between homes than they originally planned.
On average, during the move, household members have three arguments, break down in tears three times, and shout three times that they regret moving.
A total of 70% of those surveyed said they hated packing, with 40% finding it stressful to decide what to keep and what to get rid of.
Meanwhile, 80% of movers wish they had a pick-up truck or van instead of trying to cram as much as they can into an inadequately-sized family car, especially for large items like furniture and garden equipment.
George Wallis, head of marketing at Isuzu, said:
“The survey shows that moving remains one of the most stressful things you can do in life, putting pressure on relationships, finances and even your vehicle. It’s probably one of the most demanding loads you’ll ever carry.”
