Five most forgotten moving tasks revealed

A survey by consumer organisation Which? has revealed the five tasks most often overlooked during a move.

1. Post redirection

The most commonly forgotten task is redirecting the post from the old to the new address. Arrange this with Royal Mail a few days before moving, as it can take up to five days to become active.

2. Measuring for blinds and curtains

The next most overlooked task is measuring the windows for curtains and blinds before purchasing them.

3. Changing addresses with online retailers

If you forget to update your address on all your e-commerce sites, you risk having orders sent to the wrong home.

4. Arranging a new broadband service

It is essential to set up a new broadband service at the new address or transfer your existing account. Otherwise, you could be without internet for a period.

5. Read the meters

To check that you do not pay for more gas, electricity and water than you’ve used, take meter readings at both your old and new homes on moving day.

Other often forgotten tasks include applying for a new driving licence, arranging new home insurance and notifying the council about the move.

With so many tasks involved in moving, it is not surprising that some are forgotten. Which? recommends making a comprehensive checklist for every stage of the process, which contains every task, small or large, that needs doing.

For house removals in the Liverpool area, you may also want to add getting a removal service quote from a reliable moving company like Merseyside Movers & Storers to your moving tasks list.
