Packing expert shares top tips for organising

Professional organiser and wellness coach Michelle Hobgood has shared her top packing tips when moving home.

Her first tip is to create a systematic plan to organise the packing. For example, put all items from one room in boxes labelled with that room. Packing cubes help minimise the amount of space used in a box, and can be particularly useful for cramming clothes in.

Declutter as much as you can and get rid of items you don’t need. If curtains and carpets are the wrong size for the new home, don’t take them with you.

A strong recommendation from Michelle is to hire professional movers. She says:

“If you are able to hire a moving company, I always recommend that. It will make your move so much easier.”

Packing all your possessions requires a lot of boxes. To save money, you can ask your local supermarket for their spare empty cardboard boxes, which they will not charge for.

After arriving at the new home, it’s time to organise it. Michelle Hobgood provides professional advice and training through her brand, The Tiny Trainer, about optimising space, sorting, purging and customising systems in the home that are easy to maintain. Afterwards, she says:

“You’ll have a home that feels comfortable, lived in, and functional.”
