If you have a large jewellery collection, it’s important to pack it well so that nothing goes missing or damaged during a home move. Here are 5 tips for securely packing jewellery:
1. Use a jewellery roll
A jewellery roll is designed to hold jewellery when travelling. It has several pockets, some with zips that hold pendants, earrings, rings and necklaces. They are not expensive, and start at under twenty pounds.
2. Attach earrings to buttons
To prevent the loss of an earring, feed each earring of a pair through a spare button so that they stay together.
3. Use a straw for thin necklaces
Thin gold or silver necklaces can become tangled when transported. To prevent this, thread them through a drinking straw and secure the clasp.
4. Wrap individual items in tissue paper
Wrapping items of jewellery in tissue paper helps to prevent scratches and put each piece in a plastic sandwich bag to keep them dry.
5. Use pill boxes for small items
Pill boxes are ideal for holding individual small items. Alternatively, an egg carton can be used to hold several items, but make sure that the lid is securely held down.
After you have securely packed jewellery take it with you on the move. If this is not practical and it goes in the moving truck, make sure that the jewellery is fully insured.
