5 ways to deal with moving stress

Moving home can be a very stressful experience. There is so much to do and organise, and seemingly so little time to do everything. However, there are at least five things you can do to make this stressful process more manageable.

1. Accept that stress is normal

Unfortunately, stress is a normal part of moving. If you can accept this as a natural part of the process and acknowledge what you feel without trying to suppress it, you can keep your stress at a manageable level.

2. Time management

Make a to-do list of everything that needs doing for the move, then allocate time for each item on this list, but understand that it often takes longer than you think to complete each item. Allow ample time for each step of the moving process to avoid the stress of feeling that you are running out of time to finish everything.

3. Start small

Try starting with the little things first. If you feel overwhelmed by how much there is to do, just do whatever you can to move the process along; this may include simply packing a single item.

4. Sleep

Moving can take its toll physically and mentally, which is why it’s important to get enough sleep to recharge overnight and wake up refreshed and unstressed.
