If you buy a home that is not a new build, there are at least eight questions to ask the seller before the move.
1. Where are the electricity and gas meters located?
You will need to check the meter readings when you move in so that the first bill from the energy provider is accurate.
2. Where is the water stopcock?
If there is a water leak you need to know how to get to the stopcock quickly to turn the water off.
3. What day are the bins collected?
You need to know when to put the rubbish bins out.
4. Which surfaces need special cleaning care?
Wood floors and other delicate surfaces can be harmed by using harsh chemical cleaning products.
5. Are there instructions and warranties for electrical items?
Built-in appliances such as fridges and hobs are normally included in the sale.
6. Where is the heating control?
Modern heating systems have thermostats and heating controls that keep the home at a constant warm temperature.
7. Where did the bathroom and kitchen tiles come from?
It helps to know where floor tiles were bought from so that a few spare ones can be purchased in case of damage.
8. Are there any paint tins left in the house?
In case walls need touching up, it helps to have paint available in the same colour.
