Pet rabbits are particularly sensitive creatures. Moving them to a new home can be disturbing, but it does not have to be too traumatic.
The main thing is to take the rabbit with you and not in the moving van. They will feel more secure travelling with familiar members of the family.
Before the move, be sure to visit the vet for a check-up to confirm that the rabbit is fit and healthy to travel. You will need a suitable carrier that is strong, well-ventilated and secure. The carrier should open at the top for easy access to remove the rabbit.
A cardboard box is not suitable as the rabbit could chew its way out of it. The carrier needs to be large enough for the rabbit to comfortably lie down, Put the rabbit in the carrier for a while the day before the move to get the rabbit used to it. If it is reluctant to go inside the carrier, you can use snacks to tempt it in.
During the journey, your rabbit needs to stay hydrated. Attach a water bottle to the inside of the carrier. Cover the bottom of the carrier with a towel to prevent the rabbit from slipping. For a snack put some hay inside or hand-feed it with carrots or green vegetables.
