When you are in the process of moving home, there are numerous tasks to complete and items from the garden needing special attention when it comes to cleaning and packing.
If a greenhouse can be dismantled, carefully remove the glass panels and wrap them in newspaper or cardboard. After removing the glass, the frame should easily be dismantled.
Garden tools such as forks, spades and rakes should be cleaned and bubble wrap or blankets should be used to protect sharp or pointed edges. Bind tools of similar length together securely with cord.
Garden tables and chairs can often be folded for transporting. Trampolines, paddling pools and other children’s garden tools should also be dismantled.
Hand-propelled and electric mowers should be cleaned so the moving van is not covered in dry grass. Drain the tank of petrol mowers as it is dangerous to transport a mower with a full tank of petrol.
Strimmers, leaf blowers and other electric-powered tools must be cleaned and power cords secured before moving.
Clean portable barbecues and remove all ash. Check with your moving service about transporting any barbecues or patio heater gas cylinders.
Most people leave plants in the garden when moving. Unless specified in the contract, there is no legal obligation to leave them, but it is courteous to inform the new homeowner if you intend to remove any plants.
If you have garden heaters, be sure to remove any fuel and clean them before packing.
