How to find EV-ready homes

Property website Zoopla, in partnership with Vauxhall, is making it easier to find a new home that is suitable for electric vehicle (EV) owners. You can now filter home searches on Zoopla for properties that have EV chargers or are near public charging points.

More than 60% of new cars are expected to be electric by 2030. Charging an EV at home is around four times cheaper than using a public charger, but an EV charger can cost about £1,000. A home that already has a charger is more attractive to buyers. Whether home buyers have an EV or are planning to switch to one, it is essential to have a home with an EV charger or be near a public one. For sellers, a home EV charger can make the house easier to sell.

The Zoopla search filter reveals homes fitted with an EV charger, pre-wired for one, or near charging points. If there are a number of public charging points close to the home, these are shown on a map view. The filter also identifies homes with driveways, as charging on the street is often not allowed.

Rich Hayes, chief operating officer at Zoopla, said:

“We’re proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging.”
