The trade body that represents the European moving industry, the Federation of European Movers Associations (FEDEMAC), has asked senior EU transport ministers to officially recognise May 19 as Movers’ Day.
The President of FEDEMAC, Bertil Durieux, emphasised that removal services are versatile, doing far more than just transporting furniture and belongings. Durieux says they support families during a stressful move, arrange international relocations and manage business moves.
FEDEMAC says that official recognition of Movers’ Day will raise awareness of the moving profession and its contribution to labour mobility. Emphasising that a professional moving business offers a wide range of services, the theme of the 2026 Movers’ Day was:
“Proud to be a mover – we move more than boxes.”
Movers’ Day was established in Europe by FEDEMAC in 2024 and is now supported worldwide as a day to focus on the impact the moving industry has on positive social and economic health. In 2025, moving services in 31 countries took part in the day by sharing stories on social media about how a move made a positive difference to people’s lives.
For example, there was an account of fulfilling an urgent request to move the next day and how the moving team’s humour and listening skills helped relieve the stress of moving.
