Newly released data from the website Reallymoving has identified the key moving statistics in 2025.
Halloween, October 31st, was the busiest moving day of 2025, with 24,700 moves, compared to the daily average of 5,000. The most popular day to move was Friday, when 27% of all movers relocated.
In general, people travelled fewer miles to their new home. In 2025, the average distance homebuyers moved was 10 miles. In 2024, it was 12 miles and in 2023, 15 miles.
Birmingham was the most popular place to move to, followed by Manchester, South East London, Bristol and Belfast.
Over half (58%) of all house moves were by first-time buyers, which, despite the rise in home moving costs, is just 1% lower than in 2024. First-time buyers paid an average of £275,594 for their home, with 11% choosing a new build home, and 7% using the Shared Ownership scheme, which makes it easier to get on the property ladder. Also, around 27% of home purchases were by people downsizing to a smaller home.
The region with the highest net migration was Yorkshire, where 32% more people came than left. London had a net population loss, with 62% more people leaving than arriving.
Nearly one-fifth (19%) of all home purchasers were cash buyers, the same proportion as in 2024. Purchases by property investors accounted for 4% of all home sales.
