Steve Rotheram, Liverpool City Region Mayor, is grateful for the overwhelming public support for the plans to redevelop Liverpool’s North Docks, which will provide thousands of homes and many job opportunities.
In summer 2026, the mayor held a consultation lasting six weeks about the proposed plans. When asked about their views on the redevelopment, 85.2% of 537 respondents supported creating the Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) to manage the project. 79% agreed that the MDC is best placed to be the Local Planning Authority for the development, and 72.7% were in favour of the suggested boundary of the development.
Responses to the proceedings included businesses, residents, groups within the community and other interested organisations. The consultation process was widely publicised through the media, social platforms, letters and public displays.
The Combined Authority’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee studied the consultation results on September 9th, in advance of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority on September 25th considered the proposal to establish the Mayoral Development Corporation within the region.
Steve Rotheram has been quoted as saying:
“I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to have their say in the consultation. To see more than 85% of people backing our plans is a really strong vote of confidence in what we’re trying to achieve for Liverpool’s North Docks.”
