Recent research shows that in the 12 months to June 2025, thousands more people moved to live in Scotland than left.
A spokesperson for the SNP said this demonstrated that Scotland is:
“A magnet to those fleeing other parts of the UK as Westminster lurches from crisis to crisis”.
National Records of Scotland (NRS) data show that 57,600 people moved to Scotland in the year to June 2025, compared with 48,300 who left, resulting in a net migration to Scotland of 9,300. The total population in Scotland grew by 2,200 to 5,545,500, but would have fallen without migration to the country.
SNP MSP Kate Campbell said that people are attracted to Scotland by its thriving economy, with free prescriptions, university tuition and childcare. She welcomes those who come to contribute to the Scottish economy and culture.
