The RSPCA has issued a warning about how one error can invalidate your pet insurance when moving home.
Dr Samantha Gaines of the Companion Animals Team at the RSPCA says that failing to notify the pet insurance company of the new address could make the policy invalid. Research by David Wilson Homes found that 38% of home movers with pet insurance neglect to change the address on the policy. The average pet bill is £635 for treatment of accidental injuries, which means this could be an expensive mistake if the insurance company refuses a claim due to an old address remaining on the policy.
Moving home is a stressful time for people, but it also causes anxiety in pets. To make pets feel calm and comfortable, animal charity PDSA recommends the use of a pheromone diffuser that contains natural scents that calm pets.
Pets naturally want to explore the new home. However, all spaces they can enter must be safe. Make sure doors are closed to prevent pets from entering unsafe rooms. Dogs will want to have a good sniff of the back garden. Make sure that the garden is secure, with no holes or gaps in fences and hedges.
Ideally, move your pets last, after all other boxes have been loaded in the removal van. Whilst you take care of your pets, leave it to us at Merseyside Movers & Storers, the leading Liverpool removal company, to transport the rest of your belongings.
