Spain extends Job Seeker Visa validity period

The Spanish government has updated its Job Seeker Visa scheme to allow selected non-EU citizens to live in Spain for a year whilst looking for a job. The visa was previously valid for just three months.

The Job Seeker Visa aims to recruit talented workers for industries in Spain that have a labour shortage. The visa does not grant the right to work in Spain but allows people to live in the country whilst they find an employer.

If someone receives an offer of employment, they can then be given the right to work and live in Spain without needing to return to their home country to arrange a work visa.

Not everyone is eligible for the Job Seeker Visa. Applicants must either be international graduates from an accredited academic institution located in Spain or professionals with qualifications suitable for employment in listed shortage occupations, including roles in tech and healthcare.

Non-EU citizens who are children or grandchildren of Spanish citizens can also obtain the visa.

People who are otherwise eligible for the visa cannot live in Spain if they do not have sufficient funds to support themselves whilst job hunting. They must also pass a criminal background check covering the previous five years.
