Study finds more employees relocating

In the 2023 Corporate Relocation Survey, 70% of companies reported a rise in the number of employees who had relocated. This upward trend is continuing in 2024.

There are several reasons why more employees could be relocating. The COVID-19 pandemic saw a rise in the trend of remote working, with workers able to work from any location.

Increasingly, employees are wanting hybrid work patterns, with a mix of home working and time spent in the workplace. This can mean relocating to a new home nearer the company office.

There is a shortage of qualified people for many jobs, and organisations are now recruiting people from outside the area where their business is located.

Many companies are reassessing their office space requirements and moving to smaller or larger office buildings. If the new offices are in a different area, employees may well want to live nearer.

Companies can choose to make the relocation process simpler for their workers. Some use a single removal company to assist their staff in moving their belongings to their new home.

Many employers provide both practical and financial assistance for employee relocation. Some pay all location costs and arrange the move for their staff. Others pay a lump sum with which the employees use for all or part of the cost of their moving arrangements.
