Study reveals increase in employee willingness to relocate internationally

A new Ipsos survey has found that nearly half (49%) of employees globally would consider relocating internationally for work in 2025, up from 46% in 2017.

There are at least five key issues that influence relocation decisions.

1. Home connections

Employees need to maintain strong connections with their home country. Over two-thirds of survey respondents said that paid travel costs for them and their families to visit home regularly is a relocation motivating factor.

2. Flexible work options

Remote and hybrid working reflects the importance workers place on a healthy work-life balance.

3. Quality of life

When considering a move abroad, staff look at the quality of life they expect to find in the new country. They want a low cost of living, low crime rates, good quality healthcare and other factors that contribute to a good lifestyle. They also want to live in an economically and politically stable country,

4. Long-term professional development

Nearly 70% of respondents stated that long-term career development is a key influence on a decision to move abroad.

5. Relocation incentives

Several relocation incentives persuade staff to move, including free language lessons, temporary housing, generous paid holidays and flexible hybrid working options.

Another incentive is for employers to pay for moving expenses and help employees find an experienced and reliable removals service. At Merseyside Movers & Storers, we are a Liverpool removal company with a professional moving team that has, over many years, helped clients successfully relocate to other countries.
