Millions of people in the UK rely on a broadband connection every day, especially if they work from home.
Research by Uswitch revealed that it takes an average of eight days after moving into a new home to connect to broadband, but it could take up to two weeks. This could mean no access to social media, streaming videos, websites and emails.
Most broadband companies will allow you to transfer their service to a new home, but require several weeks’ notice. If you are not tied to a contract, switching providers when you move could be a good idea if you can find a better broadband deal.
Most have an internet data allowance as part of their mobile phone contract, but Uswitch has found that a third of movers run out of data whilst waiting for their broadband to be connected.
Before the broadband is connected, it will still be technically possible to access the internet. You could rely on your mobile phone connection and tether your smartphone to a laptop or tablet, but if you watch videos from YouTube or Netflix you may soon run out of data. Most phone companies will allow you to purchase extra data, but this could be expensive.
Alternatively, purchase an unlimited data sim for a month that keeps you connected until the new broadband is switched on.
For house removals in the Liverpool region, let Merseyside Movers & Storers pack your existing broadband modem and safely deliver it to your new home, ensuring it’s ready for installation and activation by your broadband provider.
