Nearly three-quarters of families in a survey said that children often have the final say in the decision to move home.
In the survey by property website Zoopla of 2,000 families who have moved at least once, 74% said that their children play a major role in deciding whether to move home or not.
Male movers are more likely to take the lead in the finances associated with moving. They tend to create a budget, decide on the mortgage type and take charge of house price negotiations. Males also tend to arrange conveyancing. Women are more likely to dislike and reject a house.
Daniel Copley from Zoopla stated that buying a family home involves all members of the family. Understanding the family dynamics and open communication helps the process of buying and moving home go smoothly.
Mary-Lou Press President of NAEA (National Association of Estate Agents) Propertymark, said:
“It is positive to see that the children of many families are playing a key role in the final decision-making process for their next family home.”
Nigel Bishop, founder of Recoco Property Search, said that young children who grow up in the family home have opinions about moving that should be valued.
