Research by Compare My Move has revealed that Friday is the most popular day for moving home.
The findings show that 27% of house moves in 2024 took place on Friday. The managing director and co-founder of Compare My Move, Dave Sayce, explained why Friday is so popular:
“Moving on a Friday is ideal for most people as you have the entire weekend to then get settled in and it means you don’t have to take more than a day off work.”
Moving data shows the last Friday of the month is the busiest moving date.
For some aspiring movers, the problem with moving on a Friday is that home removal services may be fully booked. If you are relying on the conveyancing process to be finalised on a Friday, there could be delays. You don’t have to move on completion day; you could move the day after.
The next most popular day to move is Saturday, with some removal services charging up to £100 less than a Friday move. Experts from the industry would advise people moving home to organise any professional moving support as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
The middle of the week and mid-month are the quietest times to move, with less demand for removal services.
