A YouGov survey for legal technology organisation LawTechUK has found that 10% of respondents complained about poor levels of transparency and communication with their conveyancer.
The survey revealed that more a quarter (27%) of people in the 35 to 44 age bracket of home buyers found the conveyancing process frustrating and inefficient.
24% of survey respondents reported that they felt the need to follow up with conveyancers and solicitors for progress updates and that the process was lengthier than they expected,
This situation is better in Scotland, where 42% said that conveyancing was finished within the time period they expected.
Chris Grant from LawTechUK said:
“This research points to the pressure that conveyancers are under. They are still operating a largely manual communication process under extreme capacity pressure, while buyers expect the real-time visibility they receive in every other area of their lives.”
He added that technology developed by LawTechUK can make conveyancing more efficient and quicker. Its platform has real-time tracking, automatic updates and digital document administration. Despite this, 13% of survey respondents reported being unaware that technology-assisted conveyancing was available.
Konrad Rotthege, CEO of a proptech company called Conveyo, and he has said that inefficient solicitors were not the problem; it was the out-of-date, manual systems they had to work with.
