A new survey of 2000 people, commissioned by Tempcover, has identified their main concerns about moving home.
A majority of survey respondents (66%) said that moving home was the most stressful experience in life, with 54% stating that moving was worse than starting a new job.
On average, movers make five complete trips between their old and new properties. Unsurprisingly, over half (54%) find this exhausting.
From the survey, 37% said they felt overwhelmed by the large number of possessions to pack and move. Packing was the most difficult aspect of the move, cited by 46% of respondents, with 60% concerned about the long time it takes to fully empty a property of belongings. Over a fifth (21%) had concerns about their belongings being damaged during the move.
Planning a home move starts around three months before the moving date. Worrying about the upcoming move led to sleep loss among 27% of survey respondents.
The CEO of Tempcover, Paul Gilshan, said that moving home is often hailed as exciting and a fresh start, but that’s not the reality for most movers:
“From figuring out how a life’s worth of belongings fit into a vehicle, to coordinating paperwork and navigating pressured timelines, it can feel like a constant to-do list that never quite ends.”
