Three scams to avoid when moving abroad

International health insurance company William Russell has issued a warning about three scams that target Brits moving abroad.

The first scam involves selling fraudulent insurance policies. Though some countries have healthcare agreements that apply to UK citizens, they may not cover all medical expenses. Some countries require residents to have health insurance.

It recommended that residents have health insurance, but be wary of scammers selling fraudulent policies. Often, the victims of scammers believe they are covered, but only discover that the insurance is worthless when they find they cannot make a claim. William Russell says to only buy policies from internationally-recognised and long-established insurance providers.

The next scam to avoid is false visa agencies. Many countries require non-citizens who want to live there to obtain a resident’s visa. This can often require filling in long, complex forms and can take a long time. There are agencies that promise to speed up the process and guarantee that the application will be approved. Bogus agencies charge an upfront fee and fail to deliver the promised service. Experts advise to only apply through official government websites or verified consulates.

Before moving abroad, many need a job to financially support themselves. Watch out for false recruitment companies that charge upfront fees for job offers that are not genuine.
